We're looking a bit thin on the ground aren't we?

Re: Team line up vs Arsenal
Im really not convinced that we have the players to successfully play 4231 given, 1) neither Noble or Song when fit / signed have the legs to play in the 2 next to either Kouyate or we assume Obiang, and 2) are we really going to go with something like Zarate Payet Valencia behind a lone striker, ie 4 very attack minded players with little workrate or tracking back, especially with our attacking full backs.

Personally I think we are more suited to playing the diamond with either Noble or Song, ideally Song, playing behind the back 4 and using their passing and vision to start attacks and then 2 athletic box to box midfielders, Kouyate and Obiang in front giving plenty of freedom to Payet and still allowing our full backs to attack like last year. Potentially I think out best 2 up front would be Sakho and Carroll again when fit with Jimenez and Valencia pushing them for starts.

Although in reality the squad remains woefully short for either formation with no decent cover at central midfield or both full back positions.

Re: Team line up vs Arsenal
That was my thought
Still think 4 or 5 extra could have gone to Romania.
Shows we need to still do a lot of work on beefing up the squad.
We are relying a lot on Payet and Sahko and need the likes of Obiang , Song etc fit and playing asap.

Re: Team line up vs Arsenal
We'll be fielding a poor side whoever we put in, certainly worse than we could field last season.

Sullivan has seriously fucked up. What a fucking shambles we are. The season is fucked already As it's clear we're just playing to exist in the premier league. Not looking to compete at all, looking forward to it people?

3-0 Arsenal

Re: Team line up vs Arsenal
Obiang starts even though he has not had a single minute of pre-season football? Highly unlikely.

Re: Team line up vs Arsenal
I agree Trevor, very doubtful. I think Oxford starts in that position (but hopes Obiang is fit to play)

I think we all agree our squad are thin and need strenghtening. Thats why yesterdays result doesnt bug me much

Re: Team line up vs Arsenal
I don't see Obiang starting either and I doubt we will start with a front two. Isn't JOB still injured or has he returned to training? I was thinking that perhaps Burke may start at RB.

Re: Team line up vs Arsenal
As usual, Sullivan and his penny-pinching will mean a season of struggling no doubt. The squad looks paper thin, and I don't hold out much hope of getting the players in we so obviously need. Loans is all we will get. Nailed on.

Obiang started the game at Peterborough and was subbed with several others after 60 minutes.

Re: Team line up vs Arsenal
I think the Sam lovers are actually more boring than Charlton fans.

As if a team with Payet in is weaker than anything we saw last seaon ie Nolan playing there instead.

Injuries can't be helped and unfortunately we have a few crucual ones.

dealcanvey 11:09 Fri Aug 7
Re: Team line up vs Arsenal
Looking at peoples line ups for Sunday makes me realise how thin our squad really is. Need two more signings at least.
